Day 1  :  UMBWE GATE TREKKING KILIMANJARO TO UMBWE CAVE CAMP


 Elevation: 1600m to 2900m  Distance: 11km  Time: 6 hours  Habitat: Montane Forest On the first day, we'll register at Umbwe Park Gate and start our trek. The path winds through the rainforest and follows the Umbwe River. Our camp for the night is at Umbwe Cave Camp, located at an altitude of about 2,900m.

    Day 2  :  TREKKING FROM UMBWE CAMP KILIMANJARO TO BARRANCO CAMP


     Elevation: 2940m to 3970m  Distance: 6km  Time: 4-5 hours  Habitat: Montane Forest Leaving Umbwe Camp, we'll leave the forest behind and catch glimpses of the Western Breach wall through the mists rolling up the Great Barranco. Tonight, we'll camp at Barranco Camp.

    Day 3  :  BARRANCO CAMP TO KARANGA CAMP


    Start at 3950m, reach 3930m  Distance: 7 km  Hiking Time: 4 hours  Habitat: Alpine Desert Today, a short scramble takes us to the top of the Great Barranco Wall for some fun. Then, we cross scree to Karanga Valley (3930m) below Heim, Kersten, and Decken Glaciers. Overnight at Karanga campsite.

    Day 4  :  LEAVING KARANGA CAMP TO BARAFU CAMP


     Start at 3930m, reach 4600m  Distance: 6 km  Hiking Time: 3 hours  Habitat: Alpine Desert Leaving Karanga campsite, we join the Mweka descent Trail. Continuing up, we arrive at Barafu Hut. This marks the completion of the Southern Circuit, offering various angles to view the summit. Rest, dine, and prepare for summit day, with Mawenzi and Kibo peaks in sight.

    Day 5  :  BARAFU CAMP TO SUMMIT TO MWEKA CAMP


     Elevation: 4600m to 5895m (and down to 3100m)  Distance: 7km ascent / 23km descent Time: 6-8 hours ascent / 7-8 hours descent  Habitat: Stone scree and ice-capped summit. We start the trek at 23:30, heading towards the summit between Rebman and Ratzel glaciers. Ascending through heavy scree to Stella Point (5732m) on the crater rim, this is the most challenging part. Resting briefly at Stella Point, we witness a magnificent sunrise (weather permitting). At Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro and Africa, we celebrate. Descending to Mweka Hut campsite, passing by Barafu for lunch, it gets warmer. Trekking poles are essential for the loose gravel on the way to Mweka Camp (3100m). After a well-deserved dinner, we rest.

    Day 6  :  MWEKA CAMP TO MWEKA GATE BACK TO HOTEL


     Elevation: 3100m to 1800m,  Distance: 8 km,  Time: 3-4 hours,  Habitat: Montane Forest. After breakfast, we descend to Mweka Park Gate for summit certificates. Lower elevations can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles are useful. Keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy, but shorts and t-shirts will do.
